Edward Nalbandyan. “Karabakh issue cannot be an obstacle to our accession to the Eurasian Union.”

“Negotiations are proceeding as normal, and soon there will be concrete results,” so responded RA Foreign Affairs Minister, Edward Nalbandyan, at the joint press conference with Austrian counterpart, also Austria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Sebastian Kurz, to the question of the Austrian journalist about the role of Nagorno-Karabakh issue in the process of Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Union. He recalled that the statements on Karabakh were made at the highest level, both by Armenia and Russia, and emphasize, “It was made clear that the matter here is not that Armenia is joining the Eurasian Union along with Karabakh, and this issue cannot be an obstacle to our accession to the Eurasian Union.” Another Austrian journalist asked whether the fact that Armenia is joining the Eurasian Union means that the issue of the EU Association completely died, Edward Nalbandyan replied, “EU and Armenia signed a joint statement in Vilnius, which says about the mutual willingness to continue the cooperation in all possible areas. We will continue our efforts in this direction. We also exchanged letters with Ashton on the agreement on further cooperation, where the scheme of undertakings is described in further details.”
