Jean-Jacques Montois, Rector of the French University in Armenia (photo) is pleased with the previous academic year. According to him, the academic year never ends for the university. “It ends for the students, and the projects for the university, which are underway, never end.” Rector considers the growth in the number of entrants is a great achievement, he says that the newly opened faculty “Banking and Insurance” sponsored by “ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank” has a great role in it. He thinks that the faculty will enable to prepare personnel who will promote the development of the sector in the future.
Talking about the success of the University, said Jean-Jacques Montois mentioned that graduating the fourth year in the French university, the students have the chance to make a choice, either to continue for the Master’s in this University, or in France. “Thus, it turns out that we ourselves are the victim of our success because our students successfully continue their education in France. In other words, we ensure such a high quality undergraduates that our students are accepted in France. On the other hand, it is everyone’s right to choose,” adds the Rector. To increase the number of graduate students, a preparatory course is opened in the French university. Students from other universities may obtain such knowledge, with which they can overcome the mandatory terms of knowing French for the admission to graduate school.
Moreover, the classes will start at evening hours, which will enable the working students not to be cut off from their job. “Currently, we are thinking to expand our teaching scope and learning field. The main goal of our teaching is that our graduates have a job after graduation. From the moment of the establishment until now, we have issue such diplomas and knowledge that are in demand in the labor market, and we are always in search of opening new faculties and such ones that would meet the market requirements. At this point, I will not open the parentheses, some programs are still in progress,” says Jean-Jacques Montois. Referring to the cultural tendency of the French University, the Rector mentioned that the university education should not only be limited to only curriculums, it has to have a direct relation with the culture. “We pay attention that the cultural inclinations of our students be not only Armenian, but also French. We want also to have a developed, broad mind and high taste possessing specialists. The culture opens the human soul, doesn’t it? I think that our university, to some extent, has contributed to the preparation of the elite in Armenia. A person who does not know good literature, and does not evaluate a good wine or the artist’s painting, he cannot be a complete specialist.”
In the end of the conversation, the Rector added that it is wonderful to work in Armenia and Armenians are kind-natured and creative. He said that every time gong to France, he does not forget to take Armenian dried fruit with him that has the warmth of Armenia’s sun in it, he also takes silver jewelry and handicrafts made by Armenian masters for his loved ones. Jean-Jacques Montois spoke of his participation in the annual “Golden Apricot” Yerevan International Film Festival. Especially, this year, it was opened with Parajanov’s restored film “Pomegranate color” and was closed up with Jean-Luc Godard’s film. “Before coming to Armenia, I did not know Parajanov, I discovered the great artist here. As for Godard, I knew his films long ago, they are masterpieces of art,” said the Rector of the French University in Armenia.
