There are no Armenian-Turkish hidden talks

RPA MP is confident

“There is no Armenian-Turkish reconciliation process, neither public nor non-public”, assured member of NA Foreign Relations Committee, also RPA MP Samvel Farmanyan, in the conversation with “Aravot”, in response to the question of whether the official Yerevan is not trying to continue the process of Armenian-Turkish reconciliation or initiating a new process by officially inviting the president of Turkey to the 100th anniversary of Genocide. “I welcome the extend of such invitation to the newly elected president of Turkey by our President. Let’s go away from the associations, which are coming from him as a personality,” said our interlocutor.

To the question of whether he has tried as a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee to find out from the Foreign Affairs Ministry details of what steps are planned after the reaction from official Ankara, Samvel Farmanyan said, “On the centennial anniversary of Genocide, it is a symbolic stage, where Turkey can find strength with itself to face its own history, since the Armenian Genocide is also the black page in the history of Turkey. In this context, I am more than confident that by sending this invitation, Armenia, the Foreign Ministry, has also taken the development of all the scenarios into account: in terms of Turkey’s leader’s participation and non-participation, manipulation, etc.”

Official Yerevan’s formal invitation extended to Erdoğan was followed by the Turkish president’s statement in Baku. “The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as in the past and now continues to be the most important issue of Turkey’s foreign policy agenda. Armenia – Turkey relations will not be normalized unless the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict is resolved. Otherwise, Armenian – Turkish relations will remain the same.” In general, the current president of Turkey, the prime minister, as well as the foreign minister were always notable with their Armenophobic statements in the international instances. Samvel Farmanyan thinks, “Turkey’s attitude towards Armenia is the best expressed not in the statements of leaders of the country, but in their actions. It is illegal blockade of Armenia from the perspective of international law, which, by and large, is a semi-war act against Armenia. Accordingly, the statements voiced by Erdoğan and Davutoğlu and Çavuşoğlu and the support delivered to Azerbaijan are not new to Armenia.”

Nevertheless, the RPA MP finds that given this reality, Armenia should not take this circumstance as a starting point, but to try independently, with its own share of participation and partnership with international community finding ways and reaching solution to the problems facing us, the first of which is the de-blockade of Armenia by Turkey. “We must come out of the reality that we deal with not a very easy neighbor and a very big historical wrinkle, the main culmination of which, in my view, is the confrontation with own history by Turkey in the result of Turkish public pressure, parallel also increase of awareness of the international community or certain recognition due to political stances, which can open a way between the two nations to the future more stable and predictable relations. The whole question now is whether the Turkish leadership will find strength in itself. Let’s help the Turkish society, Turkey, to face the tragic page in its history and recognize the Genocide,” he says. Samvel Farmanyan gives much importance to the initiatives that are aimed at increasing the awareness of the Turkish society on this matter.
