“Yesterday I met with foreign country ARF representatives, who are also against for the ARF to be a zealous opposition, because according to them they should prepare events together with the government pertaining to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, both in Armenia and abroad”, so responded ARF Board member Hovhannes Igityan, to the question of Aravot.am of whether the ARF with its withdrawal from the Quartet showed its point of being principal, the fact of entering into a business with the government or there were other reasons too. He mentioned that he accepts the view presented by ARF representatives, and it is not important whether he understands it or not. “It seems like they are presenting their view perceivable for the public.”
Mr. Igityan believes that it also does not matter whether there would be one or ten political parties in the top of the platform, but what expectations this side of the public has and whether they connect their expectations to these forces. To the question of whether we can record that the government achieved its goal, it de-structured the Quartet, Mr. Igityan responded, “I do not see such a zealous opposition in Armenia. Today, PAP is the locomotive of constructive opposition and the alternative force. The remaining forces are not essential, and the government should not exert effort and energy. Here, we have PAP, and as to what relationship it has with the government, it is their business. I do not see an opposition to eliminate Serzh Sargsyan and make a change of regime.”
To our observation of whether he is of the same opinion after the interview of PAP leader Gagik Tsarukyan as the ANC, on the contrary, argues that some clarifications were made after the interview, and PAP is fighting against Serzh Sargsyan’s regime, Mr. Igityan responded, “I do not share these drastic assessments. PAP had once submitted a demand for the prime minister’s resignation and implemented it regardless of whether they are other parties standing beside it or not. PAP has a goal to use all the levers in the parliament and the society, Serzh Sargsyan’s team and direct relations and connections.”
