“The Scottish people have fought for their freedom and independence for centuries. This fight was directed against England. But times are different now. We are already in the 21st century and the notions about freedom and independence over the centuries are changing”, said human rights defender, Vardan Harutyunyan, in the conversation with Aravot.am, referring to the Scottish referendum, as a results of which the Scottish people eventually decided not to become independent. “What could seem incredible in the 19-20 centuries and ever after that, today is normal. We should view this referendum under these new notions. It was in conformity to the spirit of the 21st century and expresses the will of the Scottish people. It is important to emphasize – today’s will.”
