Stepan Safaryan. “The report will not be in favor of Azerbaijan.”

September 30,2014 14:12

Stepan Safaryan thinks that the Armenian delegation in PACE has a lack of initiative and a clear strategy. Today, on September 29, the head of the Armenian delegation in PACE, Hermine Naghdalyan, appealed the decision of the Bureau to prepare a report entitled “Nagorno-Karabakh and the growth of violence in other occupied territories of Azerbaijan”. She had suggested sending the question to the Monitoring Committee, where the suggestion was rejected by 41 votes pros and 72 votes cons.

In this regard, Aravot.am talked to the founder-president of the Institute for International and Security Affairs of Armenia, Stepan Safaryan. He considers the title of the report concerning, because it seems that Nagorno-Karabakh is read there in the composition of Azerbaijan. He believes that it is very easy to implement lobbing at the PACE, and Azerbaijan is very active on this and continues to be active. “But it is not that Azerbaijan’s position is very good, and Azerbaijan will be allowed to pass a resolution which it would like to, given the horrible situation of human rights in this country. Therefore, in this sense, perhaps we should refrain from stating details on the conflict settlement in the report, let’s say, in the form of territorial integrity and so on. With regard to other aspects, the report, certainly, will not be in favor of Azerbaijan.”

Referring to the Armenian delegation in PACE, Mr. Safaryan said that it is counteracting long ago. “Unfortunately, there is a lack of initiative and clear strategy. The Armenian delegation, as seen from the side, does not have a line, to which it would follow consistently and record success gradually. Unfortunately, this line is observed in case of Azerbaijan.”
