Old Woman’s Goats

October 04,2014 12:28

A friend of mine, recently, expressed an opinion that 40 years are required for the establishment of our state, 23 of which have already been passed. It is, of course, a term taken from the Bible, it took exactly the same number of days for Moses to “wonder” with his people through the desert until he found the right place to live. But I pretty much like the explanation that Moses intended to take the spirit of slavery out of his people. This hypothesis is also consistent with my friend’s prediction.

Why 40 years? Probably because it is the period of human being’s active life activity. In our case specifically, those who in 1991 were in the period of prosperity of strength, 30-40 years of age (including me), will not play a significant public role in 2031. We, I hope, will live and work, but it will not be our time. It will be the time of those, who were born after 1991.

The differences in this generation and ours are obvious, they have not seen the mechanisms of equalization and pressure that were operating in our adolescence and youth years. For them, the start flag was initially tricolor rather than a hammer and sickle, which embodied hegemony of obscure classes; their capital is Yerevan rather than the far away Moscow, they served and will serve in the Armenian army, their state language has always been Armenian. In addition, they never had obstacle in having access to any information.

Describing all of it only as an advantage is impossible, there are both positive and negative aspects here. But the point that generally in the course of 23 years we have moved to more freely and openly displays is obvious to me. And perhaps, it really requires 40 years to overcome the spirit of slavery.

In recent years, in our social and particularly, political life, the proportion of senility has been increased. This is evident even in the content of parliamentary sessions. Or the so-called political struggle, when one pays people to go to the rally, and the other pays people to go to anti-rally, and people begin to bicker there. These steps are absolutely useless as it will not solve the problem. But all of this is an alarming senility of going generation, which, I hope, will last for a maximum of 20 years.

The spirit of slavery still exist in Armenia. These occurrences so far are dominant. But historically, they are “old woman’s goats”.
