As we have already informed, one more initiative was put into circulation in the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE), which states the disgraceful situation of human rights in Azerbaijan. In the interview with Aravot.am, PACE Member for Legal Affairs Committee, also RPA faction MP, Arpine Hovhannisyan, informed that the PACE Legal Affairs Committee had adopted this statement, based on which, one more initiative was put into circulation associated with the issue of political prisoners in Azerbaijan.
In the conversation with us, Arpine Hovhannisyan emphasized that this session was particularly remarkable in the sense that all as one criticized Azerbaijan for the disgraceful situation of human rights in Azerbaijan, especially given the fact that during the presidency of Azerbaijan in the Board of Ministers of the Council of Europe, many people were also arrested. Arpine Hovhannisyan detailed, “Legal Affairs Committee adopted a statement that condemns this situation, which means to focus attention on this issue. Simultaneously, there is also an initiative pertaining to political prisoners during the presidency of Azerbaijan, which afterwards should become a report. One more initiative was introduced pertaining to the experts invited by the Council of Europe, who were all arrested after returning to Azerbaijan.”
Arpine Hovhannisyan informed that in addition to formal discussion, co-events were also organized with participation of several PACE delegates to discuss the human rights situation in Azerbaijan and corrupted MPs. Arpine Hovhannisyan wrapped up, “This is especially important for me because all the PACE is talking about the disgraceful corruption that exists in Azerbaijan.” In addition, there is a definite information that 128 out of all European MPs dutifully receive monthly salary from Azerbaijani authorities.
