How a political party becomes a “witness”

October 17,2014 13:07

This title reminded me of one of the numerous “internet” cases, when a woman, whose family at the present lives in hard times, was assaulted through social network by a pack of party propagandists and introducing under various “fakes,” were writing insults addressed to her, because she cast doubt on their leader’s “genius”.

Why do people enter into parties? Apparently, they have some beliefs that are shared by a group of other people, they formulate their beliefs as programs and get into a fight in the party platform to come to power and to call these programs into life. So far, mankind has not invented a better form of organizing the political life.

Difficulties arise when the affiliation to a political party turns into a political insanity. As the English writer Chesterton wrote, any one who has its own beliefs and defends them passionately debating opponents is not a bigot, a fanatic. Bigot, according to the writer, is the one who denies that his opponent is as honest as he is. And a belief arises in you that a person with different thinking than you is “sold out” and “implements an order” rather than, let’s assume, he was just mistaken, you become a political dissenter, a “witness.” Because, thus, your ears and brain are closed for alternative viewpoints, and your border is drawn within narrow circles of “party friends”.

The political sect has many features, but the most important of them are three: (1) Searching for enemies should not stop even a minute. Certainly, we are talking not only about apparent, but mainly about the crypto enemies, who pretend that they are not enemies, but since they sometimes do not agree with the “party line” on some issues, periodically a necessity arises “to tear off their masks.” (2) From time to time, it is necessary to make “proscription” lists, which will include the main enemies so that the latter would know what is expected of them if they keep opposing their party dogmas (in their terminology, “the people’s aspirations”) on at least a little, “shady” issues. (3) The political sect should have a leader suffering from extreme narcissism. “How come! Do you doubt that I am a Delphian oracle? Come on, “Get him” guys”. Thus, indubitable people gather around him.
