Stepan Danielyan, Chairman of “Partnership for Democracy” Center has made a number of discoveries by the traces of Father Komitas Hovhanyan, Superintendent-Director of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin Youth Centers. “Father Komitas had called a press conference and announced that the sects in Armenia, in his words, receive half a billion dollars a year and use them for ruining our state. The second information announced by him was about the sect advocating sexual perversion in Armenia. I have applied to NSS asking to determine whether there is such a risk to the state or not. If the risk exists, then what the national security service is engaged with and why it does not file a case against these organizations. And if there is no such a danger, whether there is no respective Article of the Cirminal Code on disseminating religious hatred”, said Mr. Danielyan to Aravot.am.
Father Komitas was invited to the NSS to give an explanation on his announcements. NSS reported to Mr. Danielyan that during the interrogation, Father clarified that he had heard about the sect advocating sexual perversion from Sevak Hovhannisyan, the Chairman of United Youth League. “They said that the young man of the League has heard about such organization from the next table at the café, has told Father Komitas, and Father as a fact has presented it during the press conference. And many people have found themselves in trouble. With regard to half a billion dollar, the priest explained that he has read in a website that an organization has received two million dollars assistance, after which, based on some facts, he has decided that there are 210 sects operating in Armenia, he has not mentioned the names and did not tell where he got this information, he has multiplied the number by two million and has announced that half a billion of dollars enters into Armenia for perversion and wrecking the state. During the explanation, he has said that he does not claim that the data are correct, he has just made assumptions and alert the public.”
Mr. Danielyan thinks that every person should be accountable for his statement. “If he tells the truth, then let the proper authorities deal with it as a social and public threat, and if it is a lie, then there are relevant Articles in the Criminal Code against the lie.”
