On October 10, after signing the Treaty of joining the Eurasian Economic Union, our country has published the list of essential commodities, around which the Ministry of Economy was negotiating for months. The experts claimed that after entering into the EaEU, the price rise for many essential commodities in Armenia is inevitable, regardless of whether they will be immediately after entering into the EaEU or some time later. It turns out that the list includes not 900 but 750 items.
As said by Daniel Ioannisyan, Program Coordinator of “Union of Informed Citizens’”, the customs tariffs for most of the products will increase in 2019, when the 2018 presidential elections will be over in our country. One of the goods that our citizens are mostly interested in was the rise in the automobile price. According to this list, the price for vehicles will increase in 5 years, in 2020. Sugar price rise is expected in three years, raw sugar – 10 years. The prices of medicine will start growing since 2018, gradually increasing until 2020.
Pursuant to Daniel Ioannisyan, in 2020, the medication price will totally go up to 13 percent. “The Ministry of Economy presented all of this as a list of privileges, but it is not so, it is a temporary list of privileges.” The experts state that among the essential goods, the price rise will be implied also to petrol, wheat, poultry, toilet paper, and other agricultural products.
