“The blind dispute on black-white plane is not acceptable for me. The dispute must be substantial. They must include evidences, on which to draw conclusions,” said Chairman of Constitutional Reform Committee Gagik Harutyunyan in the conversation with “Aravot,” referring to the upcoming political debate on constitutional reforms concept and the stance adopted by the parliamentary political forces.
He positively assesses the approach of political forces, who announce that it should not be sought in the country, but are tend to identify the mistakes through debates and talks. Gagik Harutyunyan is convinced that our collective wisdom will lead to finding a way to rational developments.
The recent years’ political developments have shown that the first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan is the most radical in his estimates and criticism. A huge portion of criticism in his political analyzes fell to Gagik Harutyunyan. To the question of “Aravot” of how he evaluates and accepts them, Gagik Harutyunyan said that he does not accept any criticism “on the thorns”. “He has his own arguments. They possibly are based on incomplete information and subjective assessments… I should not be offended or make some conclusions, but it is necessary to find out why he raises such questions and what the criticism is aimed at. Maybe, there are also objective reasons?”, responded our interlocutor, adding that if the approach is wrong, he is trying to prove its fallaciousness in practice. “In this case, the first president also raises issues, the great part of which in the most common form and constitutional approaches are reflected in this concept paper. Many people, even after reading the concept paper, ask whether it is written by the opposition or prepared by the government, because as a result of objective diagnoses, conclusions have been drawn, which are quite bitter pills to anyone, including the government authorities,” said our interlocutor.
