Recently, during his press conference, Gyumri Mayor Samvel Balasanyan informed that China’s Xi’an city recently expressed desire to come and give a concert in Gyumri. But, the Gyumri authorities refused because 200 Chinese were going to visit and it was not possible to accommodate them all in the hotels. The city mayor said that Gyumri does not yet have that much hotels to be able to accommodate a large number of people.
Whereas, last year, when becoming a CIS Cultural capital, when they were ready to host well-known cultural figures, in the result of a long search, they barely managed to find 113 suits. Gyumri city mayor also mentioned that the city lacks for high-rank hotels with international standards, for example, there is no 5-star hotel in Gyumri. Although, according to the mayor, there are hotels in Gyumri, where the price for a suit starts from 50-60 thousand drams per day. They are quite luxurious but limited.
Note that although the high-rank hotels in Gyumri are the one with 4-stars, anyway, there are hotels in other central parts of the city (mostly founded by Diaspora Armenians and foreign investors), which adjoin the Gyumri coloring and European civilization… There are even hotels that are called Art Hotels. There are rumors that some European countries’ ambassadors spend the New Year in Gyumri, in these hotels, not to speak about that they are often hosted, and attend various cultural events, interesting debates and meet with artists…
