The Cut, of Fatih Akin, a film about the Armenian Genocide

 Presented for the first time in Paris on november 7, The Cut, a film by Fatih Akin may squeak in Turkey. It will be released on December 5 to Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya and Eskişehir.

This is an epic film about the Armenian genocide. The hero of the film, Nazaret Manoogian, played by French-Algerian actor Tahar Rahim, compelled by the Ottoman authorities in the work force after refusing to convert to Islam, is left for dead after he tried to escape. Saved by Mehmet, he loses the power of speech.

Living a nightmare every day until 1923, humiliation on humiliation, the only goal that keeps alive Nazaret is to find his wife and his two daughters.

German-Turkish director Fatih Akin says he was threatened by “fascist” Turkish for having made this film.
