“It is possible that Armenian and EU would sign a new treaty in the future”, so responded Head of EU delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Traian Hristea, after the EU Advisory Group session, in response to the question of Aravot.am whether it is possible that Armenia and EU would sign a new partnership treaty in future, which will include the political component of the Association Agreement.
To our specification of when this signing will happen, Mr. Hristea replied, “It will happen when the negotiations are over.”
To our question of what the ambassador hints on urging Armenia to bring the process of the Eurasian Economic Union to completion, whether he sees obstacles and challenges, Traian Hristea replied, “The EU does not exclude the possibility that it will sign a new treaty with Armenia in the near future, given the commitments assumed by Armenia before the Eurasian Economic Union. A new phase of cooperation has launched. There is no challenge. Affiliation to the Eurasian Economic Union is Armenia’s sovereign decision and we respect it. We just need to specify the areas in which it would be possible to conduct bipartite cooperation, bearing in mind that it should be in harmony with Armenia’s decision.
