“Since January 1, the affiliation to the Customs Union would have a positive impact on our economy”, – told Gurgen Yeghiazaryan, former Deputy Minister of National Security Service, in conversation with Aravot.am. He said that mostly agricultural products are exported from Armenia, and this process requires speed. As many agriculture products go waste quicker. In case of speedy exporting, the Armenian farmers can only benefit. “Today, our Diaspora living in Russia keeps 90 percent of the population of Armenia. They work abroad and send money to our country. The situation of our countrymen in Russia and other Customs Union member countries will be several times improved.
Industrial products, which we are unable to sell in Europe can find their own place in the Customs Union countries.” Mr. Yeghiazaryan thinks that Armenia’s accession to the Customs Union will contribute to Armenia’s security as well. “The membership to the Customs Union will define an imposed peace border for Turks along the bank of River Araks, and our nation will avoid encroachments by them, to which the Turks are ready at every second.” Gurgen Yeghiazaryan believes that if Armenia were a member of the European Union, our agricultural and industrial products would not comply with the European standards.
He noted that there are not so many workers in Europe, who help their fellow countrymen living in Armenia with money. To the question of whether the sanctions against Russia would not affect Armenia, Mr. Yeghiazaryan brought the example of the People’s Republic of China, indicating that there are also sanctions imposed against this country, but currently it has the number one economy in the world. “So, a blessing in disguise. Today, these imposed sanctions, perhaps, as in the case of China so as Russia, would leave a positive impact on the economy.”
