Head of Yerevan geopolitical club Arman Boshyan claims that a new wave of tension in Armenian-Azerbaijani relations is expected. “If we follow the statements by the Minsk Group co-chairs, US and Russian officials, we would see that the situation would once again be escalated. In other words, the West will do everything for Aliyev to attack one more time, because Aliyev is facing an alternative, either you are inciting a war, or you’re going to have a Maidan,” said Arman Boshyan without specifying which of the foreign officials’ statement he understood about the possible aggravations.
To our observation that during Aliyev-Serzh Sargsyan recent meeting, according to official release, it seems an agreement has been reached on preservation of peace on the border, our interlocutor continued, “Aliyev promised a lot, but words do not decide anything but the actions, which we do not see. This person has no other choice, he is either going to create a tension on the border, or this would be his end. The West naturally should provoke to such actions, because the popping up of a new geopolitical player, the Eurasian Economic Union, with which you need to refer with Your, is not to its benefit.”
According to him, despite the name – an Economic Union, a new geopolitical union is formed and serious geopolitical clashes are begun. “Actually, the EaEU forms a geopolitical force. As a result, the conflicts are exacerbated, both local and regional. Because these processes are directed against non-formation of another player in the world, because, once formed, another system suffers, which is formed around the dollar. The situation is of the war, tensions, dollar, ruble increase, decrease, instable situation of banking system.”
As interpreted by Arman Boshyan, the EaEU does not threaten Armenia’s national identity, on the contrary. “It promotes, we preserve our national identity, because this Union unlike the European Union does not direct anything against our national identity, we can keep at least our history and values system. The European Union does not suggest us something like that, on the contrary, they were suggesting changing our values system. They’re saying why we did not choose the West, but the West has never offered us a membership to the European Union. If we had refused the EaEU, we would have appeared in an economic isolation, because currently we are in isolation with our positioning, war situation, and relations with Turkey. Armenia is a small country, but has an impact on the entire Eurasian area by the right of veto, we can block, for example, Azerbaijan, in other words, we obtain a legal effect being a member of this Union. Well, should the European Union offer a membership by veto rights, and we are a very important area, we could become, in this case one could think, an EaEU or a European Union”.
