“We still have not fully tried our opportunities of choosing a president, we need to make the system functioning without changing the current system and find the right candidate. Why should we change? What do we have? We need to improve it rather than to start with a new “A-B-C””, replied American businessman, benefactor, President of “Hovnanian Group” company and founder of “Vahakni” residential community Vahak Hovnanian, in response to the question of Aravot.am as to which government system he supports: presidential or parliamentary. Note that the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan has initiated the constitutional reform process, which underlies the question of choosing the government system. Vahak Hovnanian does not see the need for change of government system and notes, “We need a strong man to become a president. I am sure that at least this time the people will awaken, and the bribe should work but people should find the right person.”
To our question of who is Vahak Hovnanyan’s candidate for the president, the American businessman replied, “I cannot deny that I have a candidate, I have lived here for so many years, of course, I have one. But, it’s too early to give names as Serge still has years to rule, of course, many people are not happy…” We inquired to know whether he is satisfied with Serzh Sargsyan’s working, Mr. Hovnanian replied, “You’re never satisfied with today, you always want more tomorrow.” In the conversation with us, Vahak Hovnanian emphasized that he is mostly concerned today about the monopoly in Armenia.
We asked whether he has met with the Prime Minister of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan and whether he cherishes a hope that he would be successful to overcome the shadow, the entrepreneur replied, “Everything will be evident in a short period of time. I came to know Hovik Abrahamyan for a few months. I see zeal in him, and it makes me feel good. He has good ideas, but it is not enough to have them, he must implement them”. Pertaining to the fight of the parliamentary trio, Mr. Hovnanian said the following, “Over time, the fight will be held within one or two ideas, and at that time, a big fight will happen and the candidates will emerge.”
Though Vahak Hovnanian highly appreciates Robert Kocharyan’s working, however, he particularly does not want him to come back to politics and concludes, “Robert did a wonderful work. His name is already written in our history. However, new faces should emerge so that we would be able to compare and filter their works. So, why should we now restrain our thoughts and nominate another candidate? We have the potential, and everyone should be given this opportunity.”
