Model of Fear

December 04,2014 13:09

“If we had signed the agreement with the EU, Russia would bring us to ruin like with Ukraine.” Those who say so think that they are complementing our friendly country. In fact, it is a terrible indictment against Russia, which, truly, is expressed in a conventional manner, but implies complexes of ferocious revengefulness in our partner. If Russia’ such assumption of “apologists” is true, then it is impossible to build a friendly relationship with this country.

Russia perceives the EU Eastern Partnership program as a policy against thereto and is strongly vexed over the countries that were actively participating in this program. It had invented the EaEU to bring its errant “submissive” to order. An expression of the same mindset. The “father” is angry and punishes his “bad conduct” displaying children.

German philosopher and psychologist Erich Fromm, among other things, explored psychological adaptation matters. Accordingly, adaptation can be static when a man acquires new habits, but the character remains the same. Whereas the dynamic adaptation is described by Fromm by the example of a child who submits to the commands of his strict father. Suppressed hostility, which is developing against his father, becomes a factor of the very character. “It may create a new anxiety and lead to still deeper submission; it may set up a vague defiance, directed against no one in particular but rather towards life in general,” writes Fromm, who is known for developing Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis ideas, the so -called “social breakdown”.

The above mentioned two judgments are the political manifestation of the so-called “fear from the strict father” neurosis, which are typical to our political elite and the majority of the society. Fear and repressed hostility, as you can see, are intertwined phenomena and lead to destructive atmosphere.

The mechanism here is very transparent. If you have people “in your disposal,” who are dependent on you, be they children or subordinates at work, you would also behave yourself as a “strict father”, who should inspire fear, which you expect of him whom you are dependent. Thus, the model of feat operates in different levels.

Whereas, the model of partnership is much more effective. You give perfect freedom to people, motivate and encourages their creative ideas and sought them to display as individuals. Now, it is clear why new technologies are not born in Russia or Armenia, isn’t it?
