Violence “substantiations”

December 18,2014 13:09

Deputy Police Chief Levon Yeranosyan’s behavior seems strange to me. Once, he says to a journalist that he will cut off the ears of the one who speaks “bad things”. His superior reprimanded him for this interview. (Although imposing a “disciplinary penalty” over the Lieutenant General is also quite bizarre). After that, he says to another journalist that he will smash the heads of people who would “speak wrong”. Apparently, he sought to receive the next reprimand. But speaking seriously, it proves one thing: our high-ranking officials still do not understand what the state is, what the police officer, the minister, an MP, the Central Bank and others should deal with, what responsibilities we have as citizens. Specifically, as 20 years so as 10 years ago, it seems to our officials that the state issues can be resolved by smashing the heads or cutting off the ear.

Moreover, the person who takes on the guilt for MP Aram Manukyan’s assailt, also bring forward the idea of “fair revenge” as a “substantiation” for his crime. Approximately the same level judgments are made by General Seyran Saroyan. Thus, the deputy chief police, the ordinary citizen (regardless of whether he had committed the crime or not) and the General-parliamentarian lack the conscious that they live in a state rather than in a street, where the use of the physical force is respected.

It seems to me that today we cannot say that we are a very young state, or that the war participants have just returned from the front line, and thus to explain the widespread culture of violence in our society. In the 90s, the country fighters were beating people. Do you recall the assaults at lawyer Ruben Sahakyan or the assaults at Krishna followers? Do you recall how the General Manvel beat a clergyman outrunning his car on the highway? In the 2000s, the oligarchs’ bodyguards were beating people. Do you recall specifically what they were doing during the opposition rallies? Not to speak about the “March 1”. So, let no one pretend to be an angel.

As to who does it now, I find it hard to classify in any group. But the “ideology” is the same. “Well, they are male guys. So, they should give a slap in the face when the time comes, shouldn’t they?” And interestingly, although such mindset is publicly condemned, however, deep in the soul, the majority of Armenians acknowledges “inevitability” of violation.

I do not specifically write about the relationship of dram-dollar. Because, our problem is not Russia’s influence, nor unreasonable price rise, nor the speculation or the panic. All these are derivatives. The basis is having a weak state.
