“The talks with Europe refer to the technical matters”, said the President of the Yerevan Press Club, Boris Navasardyan, in the conversation with Aravot.am, referring to the statement made by the First Deputy Minister of Economy Garegin Melkonyan saying that Armenia resumes the talks with the European Union around signing of a new agreement. He said that he does not think that a specific format will be discussed during the talks, in other words, according to him, it would not be discussed what name will be given to the EU -Armenia relations. “I think it’s an important question, because the depth of relations and their prospects depend on the format and status.”
Boris Navasardyan believes that the Armenia’s relations with the EU can serve as an examplefor the Eurasian Economic Union member states, because these countries apart from Russia, do not have such relationship. “In my understanding, Russia will try to prevent any steps, which will be aimed at true deepening of relations between the EU and Armenia, as well as increasing their status. But Russia, of course, will not prevent EU’s financial assistance to Armenia, nor the cooperation in priority issues, because it understands that Armenia has serious economic problems, and Russia, with its today’s situation, is unable to solve these problems. Perhaps, in the event of more constructive and more sensible policy by Russia, Armenia’s relations and negotiations with the EU could serve as a useful precedent.”
