“So far, the entire society was requesting to punish the enemy and to prevent continuing threatening the lives of our soldiers. Now, the minister has issued a relevant order, which is timely and right,” said the former deputy Defense Minister Vahan Shirkhanyan, with a reference to Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan’s today’s order regarding increase of security level on the borders. To the question of whether Minister’s order about initiating the attack would not aggravate the situation and lead to the resumption of hostilities, the former deputy minister responded, “There have been many such cases both in the last ten years and before these ten years. The border has always been in a tense situation. If our and the enemy’s soldiers are on duty in the trenches, it is impossible to expect stable peace.”
According to him, Azerbaijan has received a political order to resume war. “A political order by the forces who are against recognition of genocide and compensation matter, by the forces who were against Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union. To escalate the conflict in this area, it is first of all related to the Centennial of the Genocide. Turkey strongly need to provoke Armenia and blow up a conflict in order to be able to defend itself in the international arena from numerous events and projects dedicated to the anniversary of Genocide. Azerbaijan and Turkey carry out these attacks jointly. In addition, Armenia’s inclusion to the EaEU may also to some extent be a cause for initiating relevant actions by the West so that the situation here is possibly tense and destabilized.”
Former Deputy Minister is sure that after April 24, Azerbaijan would relatively stabilize the tension on the border. “I am surprised at our enemy’s low level of strategic thinking. They think that escalating the situation and heating conflict they can protect themselves for recognizing the genocide and compensation, it’s a naive approach with no results.”
