“Fakes” and gullible users

January 23,2015 19:00

How to distinguish is the author real or fake?

We, the journalists, are obliged to verify the facts. In other words, if let’s assume someone is spreading information that this-and-this bank is merged with this-and-this bank, it is not necessarily to take the bait like a greedy fish and promptly post it on your website or in your newspaper. “Wait a minute, – a more or less experienced journalist will think, – may be this information is spread out by the opponent of these banks so that people take out their money from these banks and move to their bank.” It’s possible, isn’t it? Here, it is more right to wait for a while and verify the fact.

Let me make a reservation if you are a journalist. But if you are the mouthpiece of the opponent bank, then, of course, no need to check anything. Or, if you are this-or-that party’s “combat leaflet”. In that case, your goal is to prove that Poghos is bad, and Petros is good, and in this case, too, there is no need to check anything. But, recently, there is a need to check the “fakes” too, and it should be done not only by journalists, but also by all users. Sometimes it’s difficult, and you should be Samvel Martirosyan to determine whether the author is fake or real. Sometimes, it just needs to be a little attentive.

For example, if the website domain reads an az and cites an estimation addressed to Armenia and Armenians by the representative of Russia or any other country, then you can be sure that it is “fake”. But it can also not be an az, in that case, I would recommend to follow the other indicators. Inn these days, dozens of “fake” texts pop up on the Internet on behalf of various Russian statesmen: Vladimir Zhirinovsky, Sergei Markov (Duma MP), Modest Kolerov (Head of “Regnum” News Agency), Dmitry Kiselyov and others. First, any person who is sufficiently fluent in Russian, will understand that these statesmen, for whom Russian is the native language, cannot express themselves like it. The authors of these texts think in a different language, the syntax is not Russian, often there is not agreement between the gender and declension. The views of such people look strange to me, however, they are not ignorant people.

There is also one circumstance that is worth paying attention to: it is very unlikely that the Duma deputies or the heads of the media act in random, unknown websites, if the official propaganda machine is under their disposal. It reaches the point that false “Garik Martirosyan” appeared on the Internet. What do you think, a man whose all family members are in Armenia, whose brother is a deputy of the National Assembly, can act on the subject of the tragedy in Gyumri with careless statements. The content of this “fake” judgments appeared on the internet is approximately the same: allegedly Russian or Russian politicians generally try to some extent justifying Permyakov and blaming Armenians in everything.

It is clear that gullible Armenians curses appear under these messages. Hence, the authors of these messages reach their target. Even if these texts are written allegedly from the viewpoint of “peoples’ friendship” (approximately, “let us not allow the Armenian fascists set our peoples at odds against each other”), it’s all the same, the target is to set at odds and cause a torrent of curses. They say that the number of Internet users in Armenia reaches 800 thousand. Not to speak about how many Armenians have access to Internet outside Armenia. Well, now come and explain every one which is “fake” and which is real. Those inventing “fakes” just rely on it.

… In 1993, the Azerbaijani newspaper published an “idea”, which allegedly was expressed by Karen Demirchyan, and a Russian newspapers had reprinted it. Allegedly, do not fight with Azerbaijanis, they are much stronger, it is very funny that the enemy has decided to attribute this “idea” to Karen Serobich. I was RA president’s press secretary then, while Demirchyan was the Director of “Armelectro” factory. I called Demirchyan on the phone and asked whether he would like to deny this fake. My interlocutor replied, if this lie commences to be discussed in Armenia, then he will deny. No one discussed it in Armenia. At that time, there was no Facebook.
