Armenian-Azerbaijani border tension and connection to the Gyumri felony

January 24,2015 18:15

The enemy does not miss the appropriate “moment”

The year has just begun, but because of border incidents we have had 10 casualties and all of them 19-20 years old. The enemy’s subversive attacks did not stop even during the New Year holidays. On January 2, the morning of January 3, during resistance of opponent’s subversive intelligence operations, two soldiers of DA were killed, Karen Samveli Grigoryan and Vardan Martiki Mkrtchyan. These were followed by the losses of the Armenian side in the result of military operations initiated by the opponent on January 5 and the night of January 6, on the Contact line of Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijani armed forces. On January 11, a subversive attempt was made by the Azerbaijani side in the direction of Tavush region. Another casualty.

On January 20 and the morning of January 21, close to 03:00 a.m., the opponent initiated an attempts of subversive intelligence penetration in the direction of Karvachar of the Contact line of Karabakh and Azerbaijani armed forces, which resulted in losses again by the Armenian side: one dead and one wounded. And the last one, the freshest, yesterday in the evening, resident of border village Choratan, Arman Rashidi Udumyan, was killed by the Azerbaijani bullet in the border zone to Berd region. The first question that arises is until when, how long this should go. Where are the responsible who should eventually be accountable to these ten families? Where is the international community with all of its international norms, that Azerbaijan breaks the cease-fire agreement in front of the eyes of the whole world, and no response?

While the Armenian society mourns the slaughter of a peaceful family in Gyumri, the situation in the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is becoming increasingly tense and dangerous. The opponent’s border diversions and RA internal tension are directly proportional. The connection between the Gyumri events and border tension is visible. In the conversation with “Aravot”, the Head of Press Service Department of NKR Defense Army Senor Hasratyan did not see connection between the Gyumri events and the border tension, however, on the other hand, he mentioned, “He have said and will say that there was tension in the frontline both prior to Gyumri events and after it.” Political analyst Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan sees this connection and notes, “The connection exists, but I am sure that the tension is long been a part of Azerbaijani policy, and official Baku is implementing this policy consistently and continuously. If some processes may contribute to adding tension or causing more serious losses to the Armenian side, Azerbaijan operates.

Official Baku’s propaganda machine is working quite active, and they are trying to create a more conflicting situation in the relations of the Armenian and Russian societies. And they do is quite well, and I do not rule out that in some sense, they are trying to connect the border tension to our problems by conveying additional energy to the public discontent inside Armenia.” According to the political analyst, the main objective of Azerbaijan is to distort the attention of the international community from the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. “Azerbaijan tries to show that the international community should pay a price to Azerbaijan for peace, and seizes dividends through blackmail.”

To our question of who should be accountable to the family members for the soldiers fallen on the border, and whether 10 casualties is not a big number for a small country like Armenia is, Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan replied, “The loss of a single soldier is too big for a small country like Armenia. Here, everything should be based on civic and national consciousness. I do not think that the Defense Ministry has the serious commitment to give an answer as such. If we look for the one to answer, then it would be better to look for it among the diplomats. Today, the one who lags behind is the diplomacy rather than the defense ministry. But also, on the other hand, it is appropriate to talk about it being in war.” Although Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan urged to make judgments about the Gyumri slaughter based on the information of law enforcers, but he also did not rule out the Azerbaijani handwriting in organization of this slaughter.
