Turning people

Yesterday, the Komitas Museum-Institute was launched. Official media referred to it officially as the opening was attended by the President of Armenia. Non-official media did not refer at all, because there was nothing negative or “sensational” to say. Unfortunately, no official or popular person said anything bizarre at the opening ceremony that was possible to spread out and have fun.

The Komitas Museum-Institute in this respect was not interesting at all, just like the opening of the international school in Dilijan, in summer. Neither motives to complain, nor as the modern young people say, “to poke fun at somebody.” In fact, in my opinion they were not subsequent events. In particular, establishment of the Komitas Center is not only relevant, but also delayed because the experience of Komitas is instructive for us not in the sense of just cultural. We, the ordinary mortals, see the existing miserable condition, record and compare our known facts, staying in this “heavenly” level, because our imagination does not have other sources of “power”.

But at times, individuals pop up among us who are supplied by other inaccessible sources for us and say to this environment and this nation, “you are not what you think about yourselves, you are much more better, there is wealth in your visible misery, which you do not see, whereas I see it and now, I’ll show you this wealth.” Komitas did it by the illustration of our spiritual and country music. This requires to be creative, ethnographer, scientist, to have the European (German) methodology at hand, and to oppose the environment, including the church leadership. Other Armenian individuals have done it in the spheres of sciences, language, literature, and arts. Today, our political and economic thought is waiting for a similar invention. Once, when I asked my director Levon Hakhverdyan to help me translating a compound phrase, which was not found in the dictionary, he said, “The dictionary will not help here, you should come up with an invention.” Similarly, now, it is not possible to translate market economy and democratic state laws by just using a “dictionary translation”.

That is why it is necessary to study the activities of our compatriots raised from nowadays facts and becoming a turning point. Fortunately, our nation has many such brainchildren. Do you remember the Azerbaijani writer confessing that they defeated Babajanyan, Charles Aznavour, Saryan, and Parajanov? It is a true observation. You can spend billions of dollars every day on weapons and lose. Because your people have nothing to defend.
