Three options

“I strongly believe that there cannot be and should not be domestic hostility and inner hatred in our country. As in this hall so as in the government, there are educated and decent people and circles, which certainly should have their role in the development of Armenia. And I am sure that the vocabulary of personal insults and animosity will really not happen in our conferences.” This idea is expressed by PAP MP Vahe Hovhannisyan in his opening remarks at the conference organized by his political party.

Naturally, the next speakers after him did not agree with this admonition: Kim Kardashian, pampers, cow teats, earrings, etc. But if we leave the rhetorical drills aside and read Vahe’s brief speech completely, we will see that there is an attempt there to presenting the schedules of non-government wing in a systemized way.

Personally, I visualize it as follows, 1/ with the help of public pressure, to reach the point that the constitutional reforms process is suspended, 2/ with the help of the same pressure, to contribute to more or less normal holding of the 2017 parliamentary elections, and gain relative, not absolute majority. Not absolute, because otherwise it will be the same monopoly, against which very true words were said at the conference.

That is the only desirable and realistic scenario. It is desirable not because PAP is better than the Republican Party, there is no significant difference. But the problem here is not between good and bad, but change of the power, not being reproduced through elections, and the problem of the state system to come out of stagnation. In fact, it should be done without domestic hostility, without witch-hunt, and without vengeance and staff massacre. If we manage doing it, then afterwards, it will not be so important who will assume the office of the president of Armenia in 2018. Of course, drive by the same “anti-monopoly” considerations, it is desirable that this person would not be from PAP or Kocharyan.

This is the best of possible options. There is a worse option, the Republican Party will continue to reproducing. But there is much worse option than this: upheavals and chaos, which will not be organized by the political parties.

In this regard, I would like to recall the words of Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri two days ago. He said that some forces are trying to destabilize the situation in Georgia, and later, he clarified that it is not about the political parties. “There are some forces who want to instigate turmoil not only in Georgia but the entire world,” he said. Perhaps, he meant us, too.
