In the interview with Aravot.am, Gagik Hambaryan considered Serzh Sargsyan’s speech made at the RPA Board session as a revenge against PAP leader Gagik Tsarukyan. The political scientist said he did not expect such a humiliating speech from the president of the country, as Serzh Sargsyan, in the opinion of Gagik Hambaryan, was more like a man of work and was able to dismiss his political rivals in a professional way. According to our interlocutor, he was not entering into a backchat or a conflict with any political force. “Today, Serzh Sargsyan directly levelled Gagik Tsarukyan to the ground and acknowledged that the PAP is his project. He had sponsored it, he had made it grow, and he had made it reach this level and now he is going to correct his mistake, because he says that Gagik Tsarukyan project is one of his mistakes.”
According to the political scientist, the president humiliated Gagik Tsarukyan with his speech, by even calling him “Dodi Gago” and giving other personal offenses. “The president’s speech included dozens of personal offenses, the worst of which was the infantile, unreceptive and dozens of similar expressions. This can be directly said that a war is declared on Armenia’s second political force, in the face of Gagik Tsarukyan. Although the President believes that there are intelligent people in the PAP political party, with whom he later is ready to cooperate, but with this speech, Serzh Sargsyan burned the bridges that tied up PAP and the Republican Party until now. PAP, which so far was calling itself as an alternative force, deserved the president’s scorn with regard to an alternative. In the end, the president just threatened Gagik Tsarukyan, wishing to dismiss him from immunity as an MP. Of course, it would be better for the President to closely follow up the Republican MPs, who attend the National Assembly session very rarely.”
To our question of what developments shall we expect after the speech, political scientist Gagik Hambaryan said that either Gagik Tsarukyan will not respond to the speech and will leave the political arena, or he will respond and the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan will also respond together with him, who people call the true leader of PAP. According to Gagik Hambaryan, Serzh Sargsyan clearly realized that Gagik Tsarukyan is a serious political opponent. Especially the recent rallies showed that his rating is quite high, and thus humiliating him, he is trying to spoil and decry him in people’s sight. “The most important emphasis of the President referred to the constitutional reforms, to which Gagik Tsarukyan is strongly against. In other words, the term of the President, which he announced that he will assume until the end of February, is already coming to an end and it is apparent that the talks between RPA and PAP have ended without results. In other words, there is no consent between them on constitutional reforms, and the President initiated the attack.”
Gagik Hambaryan said that although some PAP members were sharply criticizing the President, however, no profane word was uttered by Gagik Tsarukyan, no personal offense has been voiced addressed to Serzh Sargsyan. Our interlocutor predicts severe days for PAP MPs and entrepreneurs. According to our interlocutor, Serzh Sargsyan confessed with the statement about Gagik Tsarukyan’s hidden taxes that the government authorities are hiding the criminals and when necessary, they use compromising materials against them. According to him, the further developments will depend on Gagik Tsarukyan’s response or silence.
