“It is not the first time that the leaders of our country, also first of all the president of the country, have announced said that even though we have made a political decision to join EaEU guided by the country’s security and economic interests, however, the EU and the European value system have no alternative for Armenia. And in the issues of human rights protection, various democratic institutions, fight against corruption and other issues, we have been guided and will be guided by the value systems that are offered by the EU to all countries. These are European standards and my personal belief is that the European value system cannot be an alternative for the state”, said RPA faction MP Margarit Yesayan to Aravot.am.
“We will welcome RA President’s attendance to this important event. If this is ensured, a wrong signal would be sent to the EU by Armenia with regard to importance of relationships,” such a statement was made today by Juris Poikāns, Ambassador-at-Large of Latvia for Eastern Partnership Affairs, during the discussion entitled “Latvian presidency priorities in the Council of the European Union and the areas of possible cooperation with Armenia” organized by “Analytical Center on Globalization and Regional Cooperation” (ACGRC) NGO and the Embassy of Latvia to Armenia.
We asked Ms. Yesayan whether she considers possible that RA President will attend the upcoming EU summit in Riga in May. “I am not competent to answer this question, because the president of the country decides at his own when and which invitations to accept.”
