I have taken the photo of this newlywed couple in September 2010. They said that they are Kurds and had come to the opening of the Holy Cross Church on Akdamar island. The husband said that he is excited about the ceremony. He was constantly looking around with jealous glance to be sure that no one is looking at his young wife. The husband also told us that he and his wife are specially prepared prior to coming to Akdamar Island and are wearing their best festive beautiful garments. With a smile, he said, “We have come to your homeland”.
