I am against “collective attacks” on any person, be this person the president of the country, a politician, or, let’s say, a cultural figure. I see in these “campaigns” not only the traces of our recent past, but also a deeper defect: the person thus “escapes” into the crowd trying to evade his personal responsibility. In Party (“nationwide”) conferences and councils’ sessions, as well as in rally speeches, this moment is bound – let me also bite, sting, and emphasize my significance and courage. Well, the Internet and Facebook provide vivid patterns of “crowded mentality”.
Now, Gagik Tsarukyan have become the target of those attacks. Let’s leave aside the criticism voiced against him and his party, which in many cases is appropriate. Now, we are talking about something else. It turns out that radicals and bloodthirsty revolutionaries are in abundance in our “crowd”, who are ready to thrown our country into a little convulsions, and it is not clear for what sake. Is it bad that the political forces are holding talks? Is it bad that they are making arrangements? Is it bad that they understand the factor of external forces, which, to say the least, is not always positive. For me, it is more ridiculous that the majority of these especially Internet “virtual Che Guevaras” live outside of Armenia, in other words, they will not enjoy the effects of their revolutionary appeals. A part of the “crowd”, probably, does not want shocks and is simply infected by extreme cynicism, or lives boyish imaginations for “coming out on top” and “punishing”.
So, once again realizing that my opinion is not a populist, I must say that the decision made by PAP dated February 18 was right, and those who were going to provoke clashes with law enforcement, let them at least postpone their “noble intention”.
I must also say that I consider the letter of the first president and his proposal to meet with the President Sargsyan right, regardless of the subjects and motives of the meeting. Ter-Petrosyan’s move as such also won the stings by the “crowd”. It seems to me that the current president must accept this offer. As to how already public Declaration can be “reedited”, I, frankly speaking, do not know. But what matters is the good will.
