On the occasion of the centennial of the Genocide, “Pair of Solar” performance will be staged in their participation, which “will tour” around the world.
According to “Aravot” sources, on the occasion of the centennial of the Armenian Genocide, “special ambassadors” – ballet dancers have arrived in Armenia, thanks to which, the creative atmosphere at the Al. Spendiaryan Opera and Ballet National Academic Theatre has become more crowded. We met with opera and theater choreographer, People’s Artist Rudolf Kharatyan (in the photo). The latter confirming the news said that artists are invited from the US, France, Japan, Greece, and Germany, who will be hosted over 8 months. The guests together with the National Opera theater artists have started the rehearsals of the “Pair of Solar” performance. The idea of this project, the libretto, the staging and choreography belongs to Rudolf Kharatyan.
Our interlocutor noted that no such a project has been carried out in Yerevan and it is included in the cultural programs for the centennial of the Armenian Genocide. “This is going to be a comprehensive presentation. The idea by no means is the wailing. We, Armenians, have our place in the universe and we should create new values, with which we can enter into the universal value system. Naregatsi, Toros Roslin and Arshile Gorky will be presented in a dance language, in short, our giants and their works, who are known to the world long ago. Documentary footage of the massacre will be presented as a form of an art, which is also comprehensive, we have used the works not only by local, but also the Diaspora artists, for example, Jean Jansem’s paintings and so on,” detailed Mr. Kharatyan.
As for the music, our interlocutor informed that they have included Naregatsi poems, Mashtots chants, Khachatryan, Babajanyan abd Canadian resident Ashot Aryan. Choreographer said that this play is a play of contemporary way of thinking, which will also include elements of modernism. He also said that the premiere is scheduled for May 27 and 31, after which the “Pair of Solar” will be included in the opera theatre repertoire. To our observation that probably the music will be a soundtrack, Mr. Kharatyan assured that an oral agreement was already been reached with the conductor Ruben Asatryan, whose musical instruments will be included in the project after the premiere by the theater orchestra.

To the question of why the foreign artists arrived from abroad are called ambassadors, Mr. Kharatyan replied, “After presenting in Yerevan, the performance will tour all over the world. The invited artists of different nationalities will be informed about the Genocide in all details, and of course, will disseminate their information throughout the world. The invitees will become familiar to the elders of the Armenian art, as well as their works.” To the inquire that it is clear that such a large-scale work, apart from the state support, implies also other funds, the ballet master said that the project is implemented under the patronage of the President’s wife.
We reminded our interlocutor that rumors are circulating that the theater will restore Edgar Hovhannisyan’s “Homeless” under the famed choreographer Maksim Martirosyan in the early 1970s, where Rudolph Kharatyan played the main character. “It is not covered in my plans,” replied Kharatyan. “Aravot” reminded Rudolph Kharatyan that when in 2009 he was invited to the National Opera Theatre as a chief choreographer, he stated that all the ballet theaters and groups are one family and his goal is to make the Armenian ballet a member of this bog family, and today, when he is no longer the chief choreographer, whether the implementation of his idea is valid. Our interlocutor replied that nothing can deviate him from fulfilling of his goal, moreover, twice a year, he receives an invitation from the American ballet academies, where he not only communicates to the new ideas and technologies, but also introduces foreign colleagues to the latest developments of the Armenian ballet.
