The key delusion

February 27,2015 12:42

One of the hardest things in life is to admit your own mistakes. This requires having enough light character (in a good sense), which enables you to easily give up false delusions. I hope I have the very character and I must immediately admit that I was doing the wrong things recently (also before that, naturally). 1/ I was blocking the people on the Facebook, whose records I did not like. It’s a sign of weakness, you as if artificially demarcate yourself from the opinions that are unpleasant to you, 2/ For a long time, I was remembering of who, when and how they hurt me, which is not smart in itself, and sometimes I was responding offendedly, which is a complete stupidity, a straightaway path to spoil your own “karma”, 3/ I was not answering the calls from an unknown number, which is not only an expression of immodesty and arrogance, but also includes the risk of missing interesting offers.

After this confession, indeed, it is possible to make a smooth transition to political forces. But I would not like to speak about repeated, I would say, cliché mistakes of the opposition over 20 years, which our opposition politicians do not admit. It has been much talked about recently, and this fact seems to overshadowing the mistakes of the government authorities, which are more tangible. Let’s take an example from yesterday’s news feed. Doesn’t it worth admitting that the “North-South” highway project is a failure, and no need spending money on it?

But here, I would like to speak more about a bigger and more fundamental mistake, which should be admitted by all of us, the people, who live in Armenia since September 21, 1991 to present day, and perhaps, to some extent, our compatriots living outside of Armenia. And the evidence should be that thanks to the successful alignment of historic “Parade of Stars”, we were given the chance to build our own state, but we laid the building of it on wrong foundations. “We” is the right word here, as soon as you start giving names of people or political parties, a usual political bickering begins, during which people are not talking about the causes but the consequences. And the mistake is that we believed and still do that the state is a mechanism that should ensure a comfortable life for us.

That is, it seems to me, the key delusion. Many more powerful states and empires are destroyed not because of natural disasters or enemy attacks, but because the majority of citizens has started first of all “watering its tree.” As soon as people in any relationship, personal or public, take more than give, period, these relationships are doomed to wreck.
