Trying to lure foreign investors
What different Armenian figures were raising until now that Armenian accession to the Eurasian Economic Union is a unique opportunity for our country to become a bridge between European and Eurasian continents is starting to get a “flesh and blood”. The BPA (Business partners of Armenia) company operating with support of the government and the investments of the private sector is launching a large-scale activities in a new geopolitical environment for our country – in the EaEU, including western with the hope to adding investments from the Western countries.
The main goal of the Company will be to show the foreign investors the prospects, which are opened for Armenia by its accession to the Eurasian Economic Union. “We have exclusive opportunities and we should present these advantages and privileges in a right way so that any foreign business will be able to more clearly see and feel the possibilities of our country,” said the CEO of the Company Vruyr Penesyan in the conversation with “Aravot”. As a first step, the Company will begin implement the “Invest in Armenia” project, which is focused on improvement of the business and investment environments in Armenia. The project will conduct annual business forums and business expos.
During the business forums, there will also be a thematic tasting-exhibition of the Armenian products. The first business forum will be held in May, where you will find the Armenian wine, brandy and waters sampling. The first business expo is planned in late September. The specific of this Business Expo will be the fact that not only the companies that are ready to work with serious international partners that have achieved great success but also the companies that are ready to sell their businesses as a whole or partly. Also representatives of international commercial network will attend the Expo, separate pavilions will be given to them so that the Armenian businessmen, mainly the manufacturers, already locally, in our country, have the opportunities to establish contacts and later export their own products through these networks.

Until now, there was no such practice. The entrepreneurs, attending the international exhibitions mainly by their own contacts and own means, are trying to establish contact. But it is not always that they are successful in meeting and cooperating with the specialists of the international trading network. As an indicator of foreign investments, there will be special pavilions, which will present the trade-industrial international organizations operating in our country, which will present the list of the companies from their countries that are operating and have made investments in Armenian. “This is an important component because, for example, if the Frenchman comes in and sees that a number of French companies have made investments and have achieved success regardless of the rumors will see something reassuring,” said our interlocutor.
There are no clear statistic data on how many foreign or joint ventures operate in Armenia. It is only known that the recent statistics in this sector is not comforting as many of them were closed. Vruyr Penesyan is sure that their initiatives will result in apparent activation. It’s a matter of time. Under the planned events, they will also be a tour to the best Armenian offices-enterprises and workshops, so that the foreigners would see Armenia’s industrial potential and become familiar with the quality standards of production. “Today, we have high-class factories appropriate for the 21st century, which can produce the highest standards products,” says our interlocutor with confidence. There is already an approved list of 100 entrepreneurs from 22 countries who will attend the upcoming events. The list is open, it is expected that it will still be enrolled, especially when many meetings and appointments are still to come.
