Armenia hosts the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly in March 16-18. Although the civil society representatives of Azerbaijan announced that they would come to Armenia, however, they did not. Note that in 2012, the Armenian delegation attended the previous EURONEST plenary session in Baku. Aravot.am talked to the President of the Yerevan Press Club Boris Navasardyan on this matter. He noted that Azerbaijan, as usual, refuses to attend the official events that are implemented in Armenia.
“All people who have a clue about the situation realize that the Azerbaijani delegation will not arrive in Yerevan. It was clear from the beginning.” Mr. Navasardyan noticed that despite the fact that the anti-Armenian sentiment is expressed acuter than in Azerbaijan than the anti-Azerbaijani sentiments in Armenia, the Armenian delegation went to Azerbaijan, and the Azerbaijani representatives have not experienced any danger in Armenia. “The main reason should be looked at somewhere else. Azerbaijan is interested in having any examples of having good relations with Armenia because it believes that the normalization of relations can happen only in case of their visualized Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement.”
