Artak Zakaryan. The Eastern Partnership is entering a new phase

March 19,2015 14:10

“It was a conscious and justified decision, unfortunately, our great region also showed that these decisions were justified in itself, and the multi-vector policy continues to remain for Armenia as the most important axis,” announces the Head of the Armenian delegation Artak Zakaryan, today, at the National Assembly, during the fourth plenary session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, referring to the decisions of Armenian membership, first to the Customs Union on September 3, 2013, and then also to the Eurasian Economic Union. Today’s session was also attended by the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy, Johannes Hahn.

Welcoming the presence of the high-rank European official, Artak Zakaryan continued, “I am deeply convinced that the Eastern Partnership is entering a new phase, given the five-year history full of events, and I am sure that in the future, all the problems that can be considered as a result of haste or omissions will take into consideration. In the next phase, the six member countries, each with its own interests, desires and objectives clarified, can continue with the path of assassination, which is the main objective of the Eastern Partnership, for some countries – the integration, and for others – the sectoral partnership or political dialogue.” Artak Zakaryan reaffirmed the official Yerevan’s position, noting that it has been always topical for the Parliament of Armenia to specify and envision the EU Eastern Partnership comprehensive and enlarged partnership within the EU Partnership, and the future of the political dialogue, as well as outlining the circles of mutual interests therein.

And since the Armenian and European values often overlap, according to rapporteur, Armenia will try to become a bridge between the EU and EAU markets. “Sooner or later, the market will work with each other, they cannot be isolated markets. Armenian has selected its economic path, but it will not be on the account of the partnership with the European Union.” Artak Zakaryan also announced that Armenia is committed to peace in the region.
