March 27,2015 18:20

At the International Media Forum “At the foot of Mount Ararat”, President Serzh Sargsyan had said that the Free Trade Agreement will provide one percent economic growth in short-term and up to two percent in the med- and long-term, and the Eurasian Economic Union several times exceeds this indicator. Aravot.am talked on this with economist Ashot Yeghiazaryan.

He said that these researches cannot be used as a basis. “Research is research, but the real life says quite different thing. If the Free Trade Agreement enabled us to come out to a very large European market with preferential terms. In the meantime, coming out to the European markets implies also involvement of investors, the entrepreneurs and business entities cooperation can bring with it emergence of new organizations, under the production circles, Armenia could involve partners, which means that it really was creating major economic development perspectives for Armenia. In other words, we were coming out to relationships with the world’s most important economic center with much more favorable conditions.”

According to him, 1-2 percent economic growth is not few, while Armenia was deprived of everything and isolated from the world because of the Eurasian Economic Union. “The Eurasian Economic area could not give us anything from the outset in terms of economic development. It is very primitive, when thinks are discussed just at the level of exchange of goods, allegedly we had so many goods to meet the market that we chose it. We basically have nothing to offer, moreover, we see that what we offer has no place. Cooperation in the Eurasian Economic Area is meaningless, numerous attempts have been made, but all of that was a failure.”
