“Policy Forum Armenia” organization has issued a message, which indicates that the organization views the recent issuance of Eurobonds by Armenia worth of 500 million dollars irresponsible and dangerous for the country. “We call upon the international community and capital market participants to cease funding the regime in Yerevan in light of the overwhelming evidence of embezzlement of the proceeds and of the disastrous economic and social policies carried out by the incompetent and corrupt government of Hovik Abrahamyan. Future democratic governments of Armenia will have every reason to declare these debts illegitimate and stop servicing them,” says the release.
Aravot.am talked on this to economist Ashot Yeghiazaryan. He noted that there is a serious problem in Armenia regarding the currency. “This is conduction by solution of two important problems. One of them is the budget issue, and the other is the issue of recruitment of the Central Bank structures. It is possible that the annual budget may have a gap.” In his words, there is also a problem of loan use efficiency in Armenia. “I think this is an imposed condition for Armenia. But let’s assume, if not for them, what will be the situation? Therefore, I would not like to politicize it.” He considers that it cannot solve the problem in a long-run, but it can be a basis also for the change of foreign policy vector.
