After the visit of Kim Kardashian and her family to Gyumri lawyer Tamara Yayloyan turned to Aravot.am and on behalf of her friends, relatives and acquaintances expressed her frustration about the fact that Samvel Balasanyan, Mayor of Gyumri -without consulting with the residents of Gyumri – had presented a golden cup known as mushurba to the visiting TV Star. “It’s ok, Mr. Mayor, that you personally make her a gift. Feel free to present her with anything you want, even your house… But why do you make a gift on behalf of me? I am a resident of Gyumri. Do you want to say that I admit that person and I admit the so-called values she carries? No, I do not admit what she is promoting, I do not admit her deeds and actions”, writes the lawyer.
She is frustrated that Kim Kardashian was received by the Prime Minister. “Many residents of Gyumri that I talk to, many intellectuals are frustrated and the reason is not the visit of Kim Kardashian. Every Armenian can and shall come to Armenia and have his/her contribution for the development of Armenia. That’s not the issue. What matters is the attitude of our government on certain issues. Kim Kardashian has come to Armenia, great, her fans can warmly receive her but media is diligently trying to show that all the Armenians are receiving Kardashian as a queen. The world learned about Armenia thanks to Kardashian but what did they learn about Armenia? They learned that in Armenia there is no one who is against the lifestyle promoted by Kim Kardashian. We say that in Armenia there are people who do not feel for the so-called values promoted by Kim Kardashian. Even a country as free as the United States is saying that Kim Kardashian is a shame for their country and emphasizes that for the youth the focus should be on education, knowledge, hard work and proper upbringing rather than on making money easily, as Kim Kardashian is promoting. The conclusion is that the U.S. cares about its values while Armenia does not. If the British Minister is making the point that Kim Kardashian should not be a model for their youth, why then our intellectuals were not offered the chance to say that yes, some people in Armenia admit her values, but not everyone… to make the point that as a nation we care for and appreciate education, upbringing…
By receiving her at the government level we announced on behalf of Armenian people that all Armenians are of the same make. That’s the conclusion. Greeting her with bread and salt and saying that she is a famous person, I am sorry to say, is an insult for many people. The government, the country, the state are a family, leaders of the government are the father and mother of this country, aren’t they? Imagine a family, where father and mother will one day make a statement that their daughter has decided to star in porn movies and you see how wealthy they have become, the whole city knows about them and they are proud of them. Will the father be proud with that? Our government is not taking notice of us, should the government view us as their children and should the government care for us, it would never take pride in it. Well, she is celebrity, she has come to Armenia, great, let her spend some time here and go back. By receiving her at the level of the government, by being proud of her means that everyone is encouraged to behave like her”, writes the lawyer.

As to Kim Kardashian’s visit resulting in more tourists visiting Armenia… the tourists will go to restaurants and hotels owned by those members of parliament. They can be happy about it, but we will get nothing of it. What has the National Assembly to do with the show-business?”
The lawyer also referred to the incident involving Shirak Primate Michael Archbishop Ajapahyan and security personnel of Kim Kardashian. Let me remind that the Armenian police and security personnel of Kim Kardashian blocked the entrance of the Yot Verk Church in Gyumri not allowing the journalists and people enter the church and the Archbishop interfered demanding to open the doors. In conclusion the lawyer writes: “Speaking in the words of the Bible: So the last will be first, and the first last. She was the last, but she came and entered our church and she wanted to be the first, she closed the doors for us. Instead of apologizing for his staff she was saying I am frustrated, residents of Gyumri are frustrated. Didn’t that woman from Gyumri deserve the right to enter the church and say her prayers? When Jesus entered the temple of God and saw merchants trading there he didn’t politely ask them to leave but drove them all out of the temple. Church is not a venue for shows. The Archbishop did the right thing. I know, after sharing my viewpoint I will be harshly criticized but what about freedom of speech?”
