What we gain after the “Proclamation of April 24 as Genocide Memorial Day in EU”?

April 16,2015 15:54

The European Parliament adopted “April 24 EU Genocide Memorial Day proclamation”. The majority vote for it that is 28 European countries. The resolution calls on Turkey to recognize Armenian Genocide and face its history. Moreover, the resolution preceded the adoption of a heated debate on the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. By the time the delegates accusations were raised against Turkey, he misinterprets history books which means that Turkey does not want to face up to its history. European delegates criticized the Turkish President remark concerning the Pope.  During the discussion, the representative of Italy Borgezio Marion was extremely upset by Erdogan`s allegations addressed to the Pope. “Erdogan wants to enter the EU talking like a member of mafia. This behavior cannot lead Turkey to the European Union.” European delegates had other emotional expressions in the hall as well. For example, members of the European Parliament applauded to this statement.

This is, of course, the emotional side, but we need to know whether this formula has any weight or not. While talking to “Aravot”, analyst Ruben Mehrabyan said. – “The European Parliament has adopted a resolution in 1987, when the Republic of Armenia was but one part of the Soviet Union and the European Parliament. This decision was not only reaffirmed by its previous decision, but also takes into account the Armenia and Turkey as European policy important subject and dictate the rule. This will cause a violent reaction of Turkey and the Turkish people will review the process. “The Pope’s announcement is another slap to Turkey, which is doing everything possible to join the EU. On this occasion, Mr. Mehrabyan said that Turkey still does not meet the criteria to become an EU member. We wonder if Turkey has become one of the major investors in the EU in this case what to expect.

Mr. Mehrabyan said. -“Turkey is a European country, and millions of Turkish society today is integrated in Europe, and this is a fact. The question is how they relate to European values.”

As a testament Mr. Mehrabyan gave the example of the Turkish “hysterical reaction” to  the Pope.

The Pop`s statement Ruben Mehrabyan assumed as a red line by which genocide and crimes of Nazism and Stalinism were put on the same side. “The red line moves to a new international relations and politics, which is regulated by various political entities, must show its attitude toward it: for, against or marginal. I think that the big changes are ahead, and references to USA and European ambitions to create a free zone.

Ruben Mehrabyan notes that there is a place both for Turkey and Armenia in EU. We inquired if Armenia has already chosen the Eurasian Union how it can be in European Union.

Mr. Mehrabyan said. -“Eurasian Union does not have any   future as well as does not have any present. This is temporal: nothing more than Putin`s caprices, which will pass when Putin leaves.”
