Karen Avagyan. “The European Parliament gives a new chance to Turkey.”

April 17,2015 14:44

“This is the result of a nation unity where each one in its place does his work thus making clearly visible and tangible achievements in the 100 anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. This is the job of years and not of one or two people, but all peoples` work together.” –said MP Karen Avagyan in response to “Aravot.am” whether it was the victory of Armenian policy that the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the Armenian genocide or just because Turkey angrily accused the Pope of Rome and gained the anger. As we have already reported yesterday, the European Parliament adopted the “April 24 EU Genocide Memorial Day Proclamation”.

Note that the28 European countries voted “for” the resolution.  Karen Avagyan says that such resolutions are not adopted by chance; it is derived from universal values and objectives.

-“Recognition and condemnation of Armenian Genocide prevents all such encroachments. A strongly worded decision should have been adopted in the center of Europe and this, of course is considered natural that this would not like the Turks, who has been lobbying organizations by financing and trying to lead denial policies”.

RA deputy considers the current and foreign events as “Turkish diplomacy failure”: when Pope remarked Holocaust and Genocide to be side by side, when countries one after another recognized the Armenian Genocide and no one puts this fact in doubt. The deputy insists that even those countries that do not speak about the Armenian genocide, it is due to political expediency and different interests but this is the matter of time. The emotional side of the observation is one thing, but Europe is also in contrary as the PACE president avoided to utter word Genocide when visiting Armenia, on the other hand, Turkey has become one of the biggest investors in this structure, the Turkish has become a working language in the PACE, whether it is not dangerous, that after the Pope`s incident`s relaxation Europe might begin to discriminate.

Mr. Avagyan said. -“The European Parliament precisely proved that this formula that does not have any connection with the investments or other processes that are performed in parallel with Turkey. Europe has shown that there are values that should not be violated. On one hand, we say that the recognition processes do not provide Armenians with something, on the other hand European qualifications and assessments make Turkey to face its history and to overcome political barriers.”

Turkey is not willing to listen to any observation, considering Erdogan`s announcement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry’s response, the Republican deputy said.

– “I would not say that Erdogan`s violated diplomatic norms prove that this country is hopeless, because even the largest religious community leaders condemn them. Turkish government’s threats against the Pope remind us of the Roman Catholic Church Pope John Paul II attack. In 1981, Turk Mehmet Ali Agjan on May 13 in St. Peter’s Square opened fire against the Pope. Pope John Paul II visited the serving Turk later and pardoned him. The Pope Francis will forgive Erdogan for arrogance as well. But one thing is clear: to threat, to attack, to kill and to attack this is Turkish manuscript. ”
