To move forward we must change the balance of memories
Psychologists have found that when people are falling into memories, they usually more remember what happened and remember their misfortunes (70 percent) than happy moments (30 percent). And if you manage to change the ratio is just the opposite, then the subconscious gets positive emotions, and it greatly helps in everything, personal and social life of success, as well as health and longevity. It is easy to say, of course. Close your eyes and you are very likely to remember who you hurt you at 4 class or who cheated or deprived of something. And you accidentally click on your fists and think, “oh, what I would have done with my offender if now I meet hi”. Or worse. “I should have beaten him then”. All this, of course, can lead to mental illnesses and mental misbalance. In case of a nation the same mechanism operates in. Of course, not to remember defeats and failures would be pathology. But even for them it is worth seeking what our nation is characterized by positive. In particular, as we beat those who offended us. Fortunately, there is something to remember her: the events of 100 years ago, both before and especially after. These days I often meet interpretations of the meaning not to smile, to sing-a dance we are suggested to talk only about the Genocide, etc. If we move by that logic, then one can always find a reason to mourn forever: economic conditions, migration “mode” of crimes, accidents, hail, etc. Constantly self-suffering is a kind of disease: the shortest way to replicate misfortunes.
April 24 is followed by April 25 and after the mourn one must be able to think of any positive idea to gather around it. Moreover, if we reunite with Armenia’s from all over the world to solve political and economic problems and if we put so much power, energy, resources, like we spend on Genocide recognition, then maybe we also will have as impressive success to solve the problem as we have reached in awakening the memories. I do not belittle the struggle for the sake of historical truth; it should be continued on political, diplomatic, lobby level. But also 100 years is a limit , when, in my opinion, should be finally freed the victim complex, we should get rid of ideas like” “If you did so, it would be so,” and focus on “success stories”. The stories, which has been associated with some of our nation, and the opportunities that this will become the basis for new stories. We need to change memories of “balance” in favor of the positive. We still do not know what a powerful force we have in Armenia and the Diaspora. There is no need to hate those who live in the positive emotions. American psychologist William James said.
-“I’m not singing because I am happy, on the contrary, I am very happy because I sing.
