President Serzh Sargsyan took part in many international media interview and answering “Reuters” question said that the USA recognizes the Armenian Genocide; it simply cannot utter this word not to hurt Turkey. According to him.
-“It is not the matter that United States do not recognize the Genocide, they do not want to utter the word Genocide in order not to hurt their ally Turkey”.
“Aravot.am” interviewed the head of “Against Violation of Law” Larisa Alaverdyan inquiring whether the mentioned formulation, according to her, was true. She said.
-“They do not recognize but know it. These are two different things. Of course, the United States knows that Genocide took place; they just do not want to make a political statement, because the USA knows that the political statement will force to make some kind of steps to induce negative consequences. It is a very complicated process. It should not be said that the United States recognizes the Genocide, it must be said that the USA knows about it. It is another verb”.

According to Larisa Alaverdyan, statements, condemning the Armenian Genocide adopted by parliaments around the world are of great importance.
– “I have not made a call to talk about them with admiration, but I have to say that such statements should not be underestimated. After all, it’s a political position. When we say that 27 countries have recognized, we always say that these recognitions were achieved by different ways and reasons. But they all have significant role in political act. International law, unfortunately, is always going to be a consequence of that, so that the political processes must be highly appreciated. I reject it when it is said that different countries have recognized because they have their own interests. And what’s bad when our interests coincide with the interests of any other country. Is it something to celebrate by negative shade? I think that it is a consequence of myopia. It should be clear that Armenia’s national interests coincide with the goals of civilization. When there is a coincidence on the same level of civilization, be it under a given time or another, we should not treat it negatively. We should appreciate every such statement, even made by each USA state.
