“These are stencil statements’, so responded NKR President’s Office Spokesman David Babayan in response to the question of Aravot.am about how he will interpret the fact that one after the other, different countries issue statements saying that they do not recognize the parliamentary elections in Nagorno-Karabakh. Note that the Czech Republic, Georgia and Ukraine had issued statements announcements that they do not recognize the legitimacy of the NKR elections. Today, the European Union also issued a similar statement.
We asked David Babayan that perhaps the reaction of Ukraine and Georgia is understandable due to their problems, but how he will assess the response of the Czech Republic, Mr. Babayan replied, “The Czech Republic made such a statement by inertia, or the Azerbaijani lobby somehow played a role, as the Czech Republic has always showed a quite balanced approach, however, this is the so-called stencil statement, which can no way affect our perseverance. On the other hand, these statements do not meet the reality, because if they say that the elections are not legitimate, they should also think about what Nagorno-Karabakh should do: to follow these statements and make the country a dictatorship?” Caption: David Babayan
According to David Babayan, if it is impartial, then I should say that we would not recognize the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, but we welcome the democratic elections. Instead, David Babayan raises a question about why they do not criticize Azerbaijan for the dictatorship regime and hold European Olympic Games there. Many people remember that in the 30’ies, when the Olympics Games were held in Germany, how all of them were ashamed that these Games were held in Nazi Germany. Mr. Babayan interprets such statements as “a crisis of values in Europe”, which no way impact on Artsakh. David Babayan noted that though Azerbaijan is spending oil-dollars, but they can never substitute the ballots.
NKR President’s spokesman made a comparison that Azerbaijan is also a recognized country, but all the rights and flagrantly violated there, and noted, “While our goal is to have a recognized democratic state, I think Artsakh has earned this right.” Captions: Aghasi Yenokyan

Political analyst Aghasi Yenokyan associates this kind of statement regarding the elections in NKR with the fact that these countries have not recognized the Republic of Artsakh. He detailed, “This is the general continuation of this policy, and it cannot be called a pro-Azerbaijani”.
We asked whether we can record that the situation worked to the detriment of Artsakh, Mr. Yenokyan said, “Something like this has happened to every elections. We say that observers from different countries take part in the elections, but they are individuals who do not have a recognized legal international status. They are present and recognize, but the states do not recognize.” Mr. Yenokyan also mentioned in this context that Armenia has not also recognized the NKR, simply it agrees by default. “Karabakh’s problem is to possibly hold democratic elections, that if at any time the issue of Artsakh recognition is put, then this would be a major plus for Artsakh. Therefore, these statements are mainly the result of non-recognition of Artsakh.”
