The Royal Swedish Ballet solo dancer Arsen Mehrabyan’s considerations

“It is long ago impossible to be limited to one ballet style “vocabulary”, evade the modern and contemporary dances, and generally the specter of plastic movement,” said the Royal Swedish Ballet solo dancer Arsen Mehrabyan (in the photo) in the meeting with “Aravot”. He also informed that the universalism today is necessary to both strengthen the innovative and classical perception. Recently, our interlocutor performed at the National Opera Theatre in the staff of “Powerful Feelings” show-ballet founded with his art friends performing in the Europe’s leading theaters in 2006. They arrived in the homeland to participate in the “Let’s dance for peace” project organized by Armenia’s dancing “Friendship” ensemble. Caption: “Powerful Feelings” show-ballet. The cast of “Powerful Feelings” include also the solo dancer of the “Stuttgart Ballet” Arman Zazyan, lead dancer of “Berlin Ballet” Gevorg Asoyan and the Royal Swedish Ballet dancer AdiLiJiang Abudureheman.

To the inquiry as to why this time the show-ballet founders Arman Grigoryan, Tigran Mikayelyan and Vahe Martirosyan have not arrived in Armenia, Arsen Mehrabyan reminded that the reason is the working in various theaters and the incompatibility of schedules. In various years, the “Powerful feelings” has also presented qualified artists from Canada, the Czech Republic, Japan, Australia and Sweden to the Armenian audience. What goal does it pursue? Our interlocutor noted that they always invite foreigners into their show-ballet programs, for example, at the present they are working with Russian dancers. And the goal is to introduce famous artists known “outside” to the Armenian audience.

We reminded that once, in the interview with us, the artist had said that he stages performances with “Powerful feelings” under the music of Komitas, Sayat-Nova, Khachaturyan and other eminent people’s music. And whether he is not planning to stage a performance also in Armenia, Arsen Mehrabyan replied, I am working on 2-3 projects with “Friendship” ensemble, including “Arshile Gorky” under Alan Hovhannes’s music. The “Last Letter” performance dedicated to the centenary of the Genocide, which in the near future among other performances will be performed in Yerevan.” We conveyed our interlocutor the following though recently voice among us, in particular, by choreographer Rudolf Kharatyan that it is the time for the Armenian ballet to be integrated into the European or international ballet art family. To the question of which is the way to reach it, Arsen Mehrabyan noted several components, including a 7-8 hour daily training and a wide repertoire. “It is necessary to frequently invite choreographers from Europe or Russia to stage performances with the Yerevan opera theater ballet troupe. After that, the high performance of this or that staging will spread worldwide…”

He also added that, for example, once the world-famous choreographer Heinz Spoerli (Switzerland), Jiri Bubenicek (Czech Republic), William Forsythe (USA) and others have worked with the “Powerful feelings”. He also added that a great significance is also given to the tours, recalling Khachaturyan’s “Gayane” ballet’s tour in the Mariinsky Theatre by our chief choreographer Vilen Galstyan in 2014.
