How will the “cold war” declared by Russia to NATO affect the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh?

“In 1988, the raising of Artsakh problem and the subsequent ethnic cleansing of half a million Azerbaijani-Armenians can be attributed to the leadership of Azerbaijani SSR and USSR, but not the then not existing independent Russian authorities”, said former NKR Foreign Minister Arman Melikyan, in the conversation with Aravot.am. The point is that recently, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly held in Brussels had an obvious anti-Russian orientation, which was spoken by the Armenian parliamentarians attending the Assembly. However, the problem is that the Nagorno-Karabakh issue was introduced in the context of going against Russia, by pointing the arrows of the charges against the Russian Federation and trying to distort the facts.

We inquired to learn from Arman Melikyan about where all of this will lead. “Generally, the distortion of the chronology of the Artsakh conflict has become a reliable tool in the hands of various states and organizations, to pursue the own interests by distorting the nature of the conflict. The Armenian side has its share of undeniable sin here, they should not forget the problem of the Azerbaijani-Armenians refugees and give the opportunity of chronological proofreading opposing to our fundamental interests to anyone. Russia, certainly, pursues a particular interest in the context of this conflict, but other near and far states also pursue similar interests. Unfortunately, the Armenian side is so far unable to elaborate new articulated political approaches and introduce to the agenda of negotiations,” said our interlocutor.
