To be unique

June 03,2015 11:55

Every man makes a choice at any moment in his life. In particular, whether he should “win” in all disputes, ranging from petty everyday clashes and ending with “high” political and ideological disputes. If the man’s main goal is “to be right” in all circumstances, it would give a senseless strain to his life. It is a matter of choice: to be “right” or to be happy. Or, the Western civilization inject into their children since aged three, “You ought to be the first” and make the whole life a race to win this “championship” in various spheres by pushing away the others with the elbows. Accordingly, the disappointments and complexes not to reach the desired goals. No parent and no teacher usually tell the child, it is not necessarily for you to be first, try to be unique. (To the point, I think this should become the foundation for a new type of educational system).

The same is true at the national level. The “pro-westerns” and “pro-Russians” in Armenia constantly argue about which of the orientations is “right”, by finding right or wrong arguments to decry the “opposite side” and to praise the one they preferred. Actually, there is no “right” or “wrong” in this dispute. In addition to these two poles, there might also be a “pro-Chinese” or “pro-Iranian”, just for ensuring a prosperous and secure life for the citizens of Armenia. What do Armenians benefit by throwing labels like “alkies” and “pengs” at each other’s face? We only lose by involving others in the dispute.  and Sergey Kurghinyan argue with each other rather than “through us.”

Similar delusion, in my opinion, is to be excessively carried away with competing by quantities. It is totally wrong, especially for Armenia. We cannot produce a known physical product more or even better. Our product should be unique, different from others, and “personal”. It is an illusion that we would reopen, let’s say, the “Nairit” plant, 10 thousand people will get jobs, and we would be in the leading position in the world for the production of rubber. Something like this can be done only by a superpower. We should not even enter into the race of imagination and deceive people that in 1-2 months or at least in 1-2 years, such a thing can happen.

Which are the spheres that we can get a unique output? It is certainly a matter of discussion, but it seems to me that these are the spheres of culture, science, information technologies, and knowledge rather than in the sphere of “casting iron”. But despite the loud words, they are not viewed as strategic directions, the government does not do and encourage investments in education and sciences. While, it is clear that the target of the most promising investment today is the Man.
