Neither concession, nor achievement

June 05,2015 16:19

Official Baku announced that Azerbaijan has made concessions to the EU by signing the “Eastern Partnership” Declaration in the Riga Summit. Was it really a concession or an acquisition by the Armenian side when one of the fundamental principles for settlement of the conflict – the “territorial integrity” – was not mentioned in the clause regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh issue? The former head of the NATO Desk of Ministry of Foreign Relations of Armenia, now the Expert of the Armenian Center for Democracy, Security and Development, Marta Ayvazyan, in the interview with “Aravot”, noted about this issue, “None of the Declaration of the four “Eastern Partnership” summits contained a particular reference to any of the fundamental principles of the conflict settlement. All four declarations used the common wording, “a peaceful settlement of the conflict based on norms and principles of the international law”. Hence, in this sense, I see neither a concession nor an achievement.”
