Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan is vexed that her popular call to the Diaspora to invest 1,000 dollars to our banks was accepted so hostile. In the interview with Aravot.am, she expressed her indignation about what a wrong thing she has said that the journalists have made it an Armenian Question. “I am saying to invest money into the banks, get the interest, and we would be rich too, this becomes a subject of unexplained fuss by the journalists. What is the fuss about? What an irrational and wrong thing have I said? I have said the right thing. All the mindful people are saying, “What a good thing she is saying, let’s invest and make interest”. In Canada, the editor for the “Horizon” newspaper said, “Mrs. Hakobyan, you have told this to me in December, and I have opened an account, now I am getting the interest, you have said, go and buy a house, I have bought a house and I am very thankful to you. When you’re suggesting something, these people begin thinking. You may make 100 offers and if at least 10 of them is accepted, it is very good. You may make 5 offers, but 1,000 people may accept it and 10 thousand would not accept it, it is also very good. As they say, we should start from somewhere and do something. Now, if I fold my arms and say, well, they are leaving and it is not my business, it is not good, isn’t it? Every man should have a little bit of civic courage, a little bit of patriotism to be somehow helpful. The doors of our Ministry are open all day and night to listen to everyone and encourage everyone.”
Then, Mrs. Hakobyan addressed the observation made by ANC faction secretary Aram Manukyan that you are talking pretty well, but it seems you are from a different world. “Aram Manukyan says that I’m talking wrongly. But what can I do, to tell them to leave the homeland? My task is to invite to the homeland and not vice versa.”
