ARF faction MP Aghvan Vardanyan believes that there would be an open discussion at the Parliament regarding the issue of the electricity tariff rise, which would also be attended by representatives of civil initiatives. He has also heard about the open discussion from the Speaker of the National Assembly. “If something has been changed, I am not aware of it, and if it has been changed, then it is not good. There is no show issue here, I think the public should be informed first hand,” said Mr. Vardanyan, referring to RPA speaker Eduard Sharmazanov’s statement that if we do not want to make a show, then the issue of the electricity tariff rise should be discussed in a closed session.
Today, the session of Socialist International CIS, the Caucasus and the Black Sea Commission was held, which was attended by the ARF faction MPs. The Secretary-General of Socialist International, Luis Ayala, noted that many events are taking place in the region, particularly, changes are going on in Turkey in the process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide. He sees preconditions in terms of positive trends in the process of recognition. “A day will come when the recognition of the Genocide by Turkey would open a way between Turkey and Armenia towards the confrontation of the history and the historical truth”.
