On June 13, public hearings were held in the village of Tekali, Marneuli region, Georgia, which was entitled “European integration: Georgia’s experience as a tool for conflict transformation”. The event was attended by residents of Yerevan bordering regions of Ijevan and Noyemberyan, residents of Baku, Kazakh, Aghstafa and Tovuz districts, residents of Tbilisi, Marneuli and Tsalka districts, as well as public figures and journalists. Georgian experts: Director of the “Regional Centre for Strategic Studies” Mikhael Miriziashvili and Director of the “Caucasus Strategic Research Centre” Mamuka Areshidze, delivered a report on the subject.
Human rights activist Vardan Harutyunyan was also one of those who welcomed the attendees to the public hearing. He said. “I’m happy to be here with you. I am sad that there are young people here, because when the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict began, I was thinking that we could do so that it would be put out quickly, so that you, the young men, would not know what a conflict means, or if so, you would learn it from the history books. I am sad that we failed to do such a good thing for you, and I hope that you can do more, and your children would never get together for bringing peace, but you will live in peace.” The rapporteurs were asked questions on the subject and the attendees cape up with comments. A voting for the question “Do you agree with the Georgian experience to be applied for the transformation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict?” was held with 28 votes pro, 21 cons and 7 abstained.
